Happy New Year!
I’ve never really been one for new year resolutions. I think they have a way of setting us up for failure. When we don’t stick with it, we often end up feeling even worse about ourselves than when we started.
Don’t get me wrong – it’s important to have goals, dreams, and a desire to live a healthier lifestyle. But, this is something that should become a part of our routine - this way our chance at “success” is much higher. This is oftentimes why diets never work. Sure, you lose weight initially, but there is no way you can sustain a diet for a lifetime. So, to me, resolutions are like diets; not sustainable.
The question becomes, “how can we set ourselves up for success?” The only answer real answer is hard work, dedication, and consistency. Unfortunately, there are no overnight fixes. If we want to better ourselves, we must do the work. This requires a lot of effort.
Personal development is an emotional, vulnerable, tedious task. We think we are doing so much better and then – bam - life happens, and we have a set-back. The key is to keep going. Get back up, and for the love of God, stop judging ourselves. We are only human, and often our own worst critics.
We must always focus on what we’ve accomplished, big or small. Most people tend to focus on the opposite; everything that they haven’t accomplished.
Depending on what area of personal development you are working on - it could be to become more active, more confident, to be happier, or listen more consciously, it’s important to track your process.
Keeping a journal with the progress we’ve made is a great way to remain positive. If we find ourselves feeling dejected with the process, take a look at the journal and see how far we’ve come.
When we focus on the positive it raises our energy, our vibration, and we feel better. When we feel better, we attract more abundance into our lives! We can raise our energy through playing with our pets, breathwork, exercise, music, meditation, and reiki.
Our focus should always be on what we have, what we accomplished in the day, and not the opposite. Stay positive, keep your energy high, be grateful, and remain detached from the outcome and you will become a magnet for abundance and success!
When you wake up in the morning affirm, “today is going to be a good day!” At night, as you drift off to sleep, ask yourself, “what went well today?” and fall asleep thinking of that. After all, your last thoughts of the day are what’s going to be percolating all night, so you want them to be positive and loving! Finally, throughout the day remember to be grateful! Whether that’s for your morning cup of coffee, your health, or a smooth commute to work - all of these things help to build a positive mind-set!
If we make these small changes in our daily lives, they become a new way of life, and our probability for success increases!
Until next time…remain positive!
